Marco Tursini received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, in 1987. In the same year he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of L'Aquila as an Associate Researcher, contributing to the development of the Power Electronics and Drives Laboratory “F. Ferri”. He became an Assistant Professor of Power Converters, Electrical Machines and Drives in 1991, an Associate Professor in 2002 and a Full Professor in 2017. During the years 2015-2021 he was president of the Didactic Council of Electric Engineering.

In 1990, he was Research Fellow at the Industrial Electronics Laboratory, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne, where he conducted research on sliding mode control of permanent magnet synchronous motor drives, and in 1994 at the Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Control Group, Nagasaki University, studying on parameter estimation in induction machines.

Since 1990 he has been involved in several National and European Research Projects and took the responsibility of many research contracts between the University of L'Aquila and industrial partners. In 2014 he was responsible of the FP7 CleanSky project “HyPerMAC - Hyper Performance Motor, Air Cooled”.

His research interests are focused on advanced control of AC drives, including vector, sensorless and fuzzy logic control, multi-phase fault-tolerant motors and drives, digital motion control, DSP based systems for real-time implementation, modeling and simulation of electrical drives. He has authored more than 150 technical papers on these subjects.

Currently he is professor of “Electrical Automation and Laboratory” and "Simulation and Controls for Automation" for the 2nd Level Specialist Degree Courses in Electric Engineering and Electronic Engineering, respectively, and he is member of the Council of the PhD School in Industrial & Information Engineering and Economy at the University of L’Aquila.

He is member of the IEEE Industry Applications Society and reviewer for several International Conferences and Journals, including “IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics/ Automatic Control/ Power Electronics/ Industry Applications”, “The International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering ” (COMPEL), "IET Electric Power Applications", “American Control Conference” (ACC), “Int. Conf. on Electrical Machines” (ICEM). Since 2011 he is member of the Editorial board of the “Electric Power Components and Systems” Journal.
