Ph.D. position on the research topic ??Advanced Computational Electromagnetic Modeling Techniques for Nanophotonic and Metamaterials Design?

“Advanced Computational Electromagnetic Modeling Techniques for Nanophotonic and Metamaterials Design”

Project description

 The University of L’Aquila is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) position under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Giulio Antonini for a PhD project in “Advanced Computational Electromagnetic Modeling Techniques for Nanophotonic and Metamaterials Design”. This research activity will be carried out in collaboration with Prof. Francesco Ferranti at the Brussels Photonics group of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Brussel, Belgium. A joint PhD degree can be awarded.

Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of science and engineering? Do you have a strong background in computational electromagnetic modeling and a keen interest in nanophotonics and metamaterials? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research activities in Advanced Computational Modeling for Nanophotonic and Metamaterials Design. This position offers a unique chance to work on a groundbreaking research project.

This project aims to develop advanced computational electromagnetic modeling techniques to support a very efficient design flow for nanophotonic and metamaterials applications with unprecedented optical properties. Multiple applications will be considered and explored. A final experimental validation based on nanofabrication and measurements is possible.

All the details about the application process will be made available as soon as possible.

Deadline for applications: August 2023

Prerequisites:

1)      good knowledge of linear algebra

2)      good knowledge of electromagnetics

3)      good knowledge of Matlab/C++

4)      good knowledge of the principles of nanophotonics and metamaterials

5)      be creative and innovative

Candidates are also encouraged to get in contact with Prof. Giulio Antonini (giulio.antonini@univaq.it) and Prof. Francesco Ferranti (francesco.ferranti@vub.be) for any informal discussions on project details and potential suitability.
